YOUR SPIRITUAL LEGACY

Greetings from Uganda!

We thought we would send the devotions we sent out this week for our Chog social page, which we’ve been doing since our lockdown for our pastors, leaders as church is still not open. We hope you are blessed, inspired and encouraged by the devotion below.

Psalm 145:4 “One generation commends your works to another; they tell of your mighty acts …”

Each generation has something special to pass along to the next generation; It could be stories, a Bible or a ring; spiritual values of our faith do we want to pass on to our next generation? It takes effort to do this. Spiritual values don’t just happen when one goes to church with their parents, even though this is important. The real values learned are ones we see each day, in practice. If you are a confessing Christian, then you know that living a life that is true and honest, is much more of an example to your children to believe in Jesus than any church leader can hope to be.

Passing on our faith will break if we fail to instruct our children to honour God; “After that whole generation had been gathered to their fathers, another generation grew up, who knew neither the Lord nor what he had done for Israel” (Judges. 2:10).

The past faithfulness of our forefathers is important, but we must ensure that our generation will continue the great historical legacy that is ours to share. Our faith should continue to be renewed and refreshed in order for it to be alive and attract the next generation. Each generation must be taught who God is, and what He has done for us. We see in the book of Timothy, an example of how to pass on our faith to our children. (2 Tim 1:5) Children watch their parents’ example and copy what they see.
What are we passing down to our children, and what did our parents pass down to us? Passing on our Faith begins with us, right at home, where a consistent message of love and truth is provided in order to create a strong, vibrant faith and relationship with God.

Think of the people who’ve spoken into your life. The ones who’ve helped you create strong, positive memories to grow your faith. The ones who’ve prayed for you daily and encouraged you with their wisdom. They might be a grandparent, neighbour, pastor, or parent—but today, let’s celebrate their legacy.

God Bless,
Tim and Colleen
